With the installation of the first solar power plant on the roof of the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, the realization of the project “Velika Gorica Solar City – Countdown” has physically begun, which will equip 22 public buildings in our city with solar power plants.
The aim of this project is to use solar energy for the production of electricity in public buildings in the City of Velika Gorica and thus promote the use of renewable energy sources and thus start the transition of the city in the direction of carbon neutrality by raising the level of awareness of citizens about the need to invest in renewable energy sources. Solar power plants for the production of electricity from solar energy will be located on 22 public buildings in the administrative area of the City of Velika Gorica – primary schools, kindergartens, community homes and sports facilities so that all areas are equally represented regardless of whether they are facilities in the central settlement or those in rural areas of the City. The total installed capacity of all power plants will be 588.4 kWp, and solar power plants will replace 37% of the electricity needs of the buildings involved in the project.
The University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, along with the international energy farm foundation from Norway and the Tourist Board of velika Gorica, is one of the project partners, and is also the first facility where the installation of equipment started. The expected annual electricity production is about 22.68 MWh, which will come from 48 photovoltaic modules with a nominal power of 20 kW.
Project Velika Gorica Solar City – COUNTDOWN is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism for the period 2014. until 2021 Under the “Energy and Climate Change” programme. The total value of the project is over 654 thousand euros, of which the amount of grants is 81.48% of this amount.
